Mrs Nancy Marie is the first person in Seychelles this year to reach the centenary milestone.
I visited her at her daughter's resident at Ma Joie the day after her birthday to present her a bouquet of roses and to express my congratulations for such achievement.
She greeted me with a broad smile and I was stunned by the physical strength she still possesses.
My generation and many others have a lot to learn from people like Mrs Marie. I was particularly pleased to note that she is being well taken care of by her children and grandchildren. This is what small island communities like Seychelles need.
I wish Mrs Marie, who’s mother died at 104 years of age, the best of health in the years to come.
